Norichika Aoki to sit out the World Baseball Classic

Norichika Aoki

Brewers outfielder Norichika Aoki has told Japan manager Koji Yamamoto that he will not be playing in the World Baseball Classic because he wants to prepare for the 2013 season.

Not playing in the WBC is the new black. Aoki joins Yu Darvish and Hisashi Iwakuma as no-shows for Japan and Shin-Soo Choo as a no-show for South Korea.

We still have Johnny Damon playing for Thailand, of course. Because that’s critical.

All of these no-shows are going to make it tough for Japan to three-peat. Then again, they probably have plenty of NPB players that I’ve never heard of.

I like the WBC but I just don’t think its ever going to catch on with all the major superstars in baseball. TheMLB season is already long as hell with so much travel I don’t think guys who know they have a roster spot locked up are ever going to volunteer for more travel and games the way people hoped when this tourney first started.

This guy is one of my favorite pick ups for the Brewers in a while.

Its a shame they had acquired him, because of the way the Braun thing was handled, but glad they got a true lead off hitter.

    Huh?

He means it’s a shame how the situation arose that led to his acquisition. He was signed to play left field for fifty games in anticipation of Braun’s suspension. They never would have bid on him otherwise. Heck, his posting fee was only a couple of million bucks and he has been a complete steal.
