So – Bedrosian’s 89 IPs, Davis’s 92 IPs, Gagne’s 82 IPs, and Eckersley’s 80 IPs were enough for you – but 50-65 IPs (or Chapman’s 71 IPs) are not enough?

Personally, I am not a fan of a closer getting the Cy Young unless his performance is so over the top that it must be recognized. But – it has already happened — Chapman or Kimbrel would not be the first.

I tend to disagree.

While I agree that this year, Kimbrel doesn’t deserve it, I do feel that if he manages to match his historic season (lowest FIP, xFIP, SIERA of any pitcher in any season) but over say 80 IP, he should seriously be considered. In that case he will have an fWAR of about 5 (rough guestimation) which is in the same ballpark as Kershaw, Price and Dickey this year.

If all the circumstances are right, an absolutely dominant reliever, logging a high number of IP in a season where the starters disappoint, then it could happen without it being an outrage.

I’m happy he won it! He was an awesome part of the mets this year! just amazing what he was able to achieve with the knuckleball! But I was also very very surprised that kershaw didn’t make it a closer race with the writers. Dickey only had one more strikeout than kershaw. And kershaw was #1 in e.r.a and quality starts. The wins category was lopsided but that is not the pitcher fault if he consistantly has the lowest era. Shame on the lousy hitting of the dodgers for not being able to get more support for kershaw.

And by the way, his response was typically classy and appreciative Biggeth Dicketh. Here’s a guy who’s had to work his ass off for every flutter on his knuckler, and who truly understands how far he’s had to come on so many levels. I’m thrilled for him.

Hard to argue with that. He was pretty consistent the whole season.

When we watch a pitcher like Verlander or Kershaw we know we wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance to even see their fastball much less hit it. Good to see the voters went with the boring soft tosser and not the sexy picks.

Of course being in New York didn’t hurt either.

What is this odd grip R.A. Dickey has on his picture? It looks like he has the tips of his fingers aligned perpendicular to the seams as if he is going to use them to add rotation to the ball. What fiendish foul play is at work here?

For what it’s worth, by some measure (WPA) Kimbrel was the best pitcher of all of baseball. More than a full win over Price and almost two wins over Dickey.

A well-deserved award. Hard to imagine how bad the Mets would have been last year without him. Even if he ends up going somewhere else, 2012 was an unforgettable year for Dickey and the Mets, and the award could not have gone to a better guy. Congratulations!
