I live in San Antonio, and have been to both Astros games and Rangers games. I am a Cardinals fan, so the only reason that I went to Houston in recent years was to see the Cards vs. Astros. I would much rather drive an additional 100 miles to see the Rangers.

San Antonio could handle a MLB team much better than an NFL team. Single game tickets are much cheaper to baseball than football. I just don't know if MLB wants three professional baseball organizations in Texas. But I wish it could happen.

As far as the Alamodome, I still cannot believe that we, the taxpayers, paid for this domed stadium that was too big for the Spurs, and too small for baseball (width and height). If Henry Cisneros thought that this stadium would draw an NFL team to SA, twenty years later that did not work!!!! This stadium now hosts (1) college football bowl game per year and monster truck rallies, and sits empty most of the remainder of the year. Thanks for wasting our tax dollars, Henry. You are a fine Democrat just like the ones in Washington spending us into more and more debt.

interesting as living out that way and growing up in houston there are far more astro fans in san antonio than there are rangers fans.houston is only a couple hrs away and not far to drive for a ball game.. astros have a richer history and the rangers are the flavor of the month right now.. i wonder if it cuts into territorial rights becasue i know astros games are always on tv in san antonio.. fact is the rangers are now the most choking sports team in the history of texas sports, beating out the houston oilers of 1990's in that choke to buffalo.. choked away a world series with two outs .. lmao imo rangers have peaked they will be good ,but they arent gonna dominate..astros will be back soon.. people forget that astros were contenders for basically 10 years! age catches up and you have to re-build!! teams dont stay young forever and the rangers recent success is their only success!!! they never made the playoffs when nolan ryan pitched for them and nolan will be jinxed for going into the hall asa ranger instead of his hometown astros!! he had much more success and pitched in playoff baseball in houston!! rangers are garbage!!

I don't know how much. It depends on just how powerful a marketing tool it could be. Those networks will make a lot of money and both teams own a share in the profits. Interesting question, though.

Has there been any baseball played in this dome? I'm curious how much it would take to temporarily outfit a non-baseball venue for a couple of baseball games. It seems like it might be a waste of money and materials for just a few games.

Astros and Rangers are in competition for the central Texas market. Astros had a real edge, especially with the AAA franchise in Round Rock (Austin suburb). Then Nolan Ryan took Round Rock to the Rangers.

I see this as a serious shot across the Astros' bow for the San Antonio market. San Antonio might be small for an expansion market, but they are rabid baseball fans and would be a great support for the Texas team (and broadcast network) that wins out.

I wonder if they'll schedule the Astros so if the attendance does in fact go up, the Rangers can just chalk it up as a semi-central location between Houston and Arlington for both fan bases to get a taste of the new "rivalry" and another chance for the old school Astro enthusiasts who want to see their team play in an old dome again.
