I’m at a loss to figure out why some are billing this is a huge win for the Jays. A huge get – yes, of course. The Jays gave up a lot to Johnson and Reyes. Buerhle may well get torched in the AL East.

I’d say it’s dumb because players can’t arbitrarily decide which team they play for. He’s signed with the Marlins until 2017. Also, Bryce Harper doesn’t own the Nationals, and therefore can’t offer him a contract there.

Was the tweet dumb? I don’t think it was dumb.
But it could be viewed as insensitive. Specifically…recruiting people on twitter to ultimately replace a teammate. Because if Stanton comes to D.C. that is exactly what will happen.
Put another way….

I have no idea. Sometimes baseball players are human beings, and he saw Giancarlo being stranded in So. Florida for who knows how many more years with who for company–Ricky Nolasco? Meanwhile, Harper’s having a blast on a competitive team that shelters and nurtures players (very carefullly!), and whose manager puts them out there to “express their talents.” I thought it was impulsive and sort of sweet, and no one took it seriously. You are all overthinking this.

I don’t know about the stealth GM striking again. Did he strike again or was that team finally forced to stop whining about not being able to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox after watching the Rays do it consistently and then watch the Orioles do it last season? That being said, it’s nice to see and I hope they compete for the division next year.

Dodgers improved themselves immensely with Gonzalez. If you actually look at the players traded and avoid HBTing the issue by falsely accusing LA for having spent $200 million on 2012, the Dodgers did fine.

The season doesn’t start in December. Plenty of time left for someone to do something of substance. Toronto doing all their Christmas shopping in one swoop was pretty nifty though.
Love that they picked up Johnson. If the Jays are out of it, they can still flick him off for something promising half way through the season. It’s a win win situation for them.

For Marlins fans looking for a new team, I recommend the Nationals. Fun team to watch. Of course they had to rid themselves of the Jeffrey Loria stink first, and it took some time to do that. But now they’re a blast to watch.
