Manny is being Manny in the Dominican Winter League

Nov 15, 2012, 1:18 PM EDT

Manny Ramirez is playing in the Dominican Winter League for Aguilas Cibaenas and made his debut last night, homering on the first pitch he saw as the crowd (and television announcers) went bonkers:

Some other players on Ramirez’s team include former MVP Miguel Tejada, former Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon, former Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan, and Cardinals stud prospect Oscar Taveras.

Manny, Colon and Tejada. It’s is amazing the way those guys can just keep working out for hours, even at their advanced ages.

There’s something so cool about a ballgame called in Spanish. Anyhow, Manny’s swing was late on that meatball. He got lucky there.

      Man, that was a meatball.

It never occurred to me that Spanish broadcasts say “home plate” instead of…I dunno, casa placa I guess.

Sometimes they’ll shorten it to just “plato” (a literal translation of plate).

The DRWL games look a lot more exciting and entertaining than…I’ll say the Marlins vs. Astros.

I remember when he joined the Dodgers. In his first at bat, Vin Scully said ‘I never thought I’d see the day.’ He had to be referring to the dreds.

Hopefully he’ll stay in that league, he’s completely played out in MLB.

‘Orange’ is apparently a very popular last name in the Dominican League.

is that old Daniel Cabrera on the mound?

I think so ravens. I thought it was him from the posture.

He’s out. He didn’t step on third base.
