Tor making the huge push, Yanks been doing it with smoke and mirrors since 2008, they havent signed a ‘big name’ since then….time is not on NYY’s side until they start acting the NYY of old, signem up! Toronto has done this before where they made a big push and it didnt work out for them, the AL East has just gotten a whole lot more interesting!

The underlying message from the Giants whether real or perceived is Melky is not welcome back with the team and the fans are merely parroting that message.

He did had a way to communicate with his Giants teammates if he wanted to regardless of access to the clubhouse.

I saw many Giants players interviewed after the Melky suspension. And almost all of the interviews seemed to turn uncomfortable when the subject of Melky came up.

The Giants “history” with PEDs is well documented. So it sure seems to me there is more to the story than was told to the public.

Melky went from the guy traded for Jonathan Sanchez to loved by the fan base within 2 months. There were grown men dressing up in MelkMen Outfits for goodness sake.

Wow…just finding out about this signing now. AA has really answered the call on his critics that said he needed to make some bold moves and put his neck on the line. I was calling for the team to stick with Rajai Davis in LF – Cabrera (even a “clean” Cabrera) is a definite upgrade, though.

I’m still cautious about next season, but admittedly also kind of giddy with excitement.

Don’t really understand how you can claim that they’re 6-7-8 hitters aren’t good

Because they are bad. JP Arencibia, in 242 games has walked a total of 56 times (4.8BB%). He has a career 88 OPS+ which is entirely due to his SLG. There’s exactly zero reason he should ever be thrown a pitch in the zone.

In 151 games last year, Colby Rasmus put up a .223/.289/.400 line for an 85 OPS+. He put up a 1.4 rWAR because he was credit 1.0 rWAR on defense.

Adam Lind hasn’t put up a 100+ OPS+ since ’09, and, just like the two I mentioned in front, he doesn’t walk a lot. Izturis follows a similar pattern.

One oddity is that of Arencibia, Rasmus and Lind, they are hit roughly the same at home as they do away. It’s odd because Tor plays in a big hitters park. Rasmus, in fact, hits much better away than at home (sss warning do to checking one season).

Don’t really understand how you can claim that they’re 6-7-8 hitters aren’t good. I get they they wouldn’t be amazing options if they were hitting at the top of the order, but they wouldn’t be awful ones either, and compared to many other 6 or 7 hitters in the league, Arencibia and Rasmus have to be considered at least above average. Lind is obviously a wild card, but wouldn’t shock me if was no longer on the team by the time the season started, and they instead found a way to get 2 of Bonifacio, Izturis, and Davis in the lineup at the same time, giving them not only one of the most powerful lineups in the AL with Joey Bats and EE, but probably the most dangerous on the base paths, with Reyes, Bonifacio, and Davis all easily capable of 40 SB, and Melky, Lawrie, and Rasmus all have 20 SB potential.

If they do resign Pagan, I bet it’s not for too much…so I’m basically saying they probably won’t sign him. And I don’t think they EVER had any intention of bringing Cabrera back. What does become interesting is not only the search for one or two new outfielders, but the search for a new leadoff hitter, who may indeed be one of those outfielders. While it seems like there aren’t many to be had, for the first time in memory, the Giants are quite the destination. There may be options for Brian Sabean to work a trade that haven’t been possible until now.

Now there defiantly not done JP or Buck won’t both be hear at the start of the season one of them must be gone. The only other thing they really need to do is get Oliver to stay for another year, trade buck + Lind for a real first basemen or a starting pitcher if they think cooper can play. I also think this means that goose won’t be on the big club for another 2 years.

You do realize that all those “great” teams have to play each other a ton during the regular season which diminishes the chances that 4 teams will have superb records. Somebody has to lose when they play each other. This is how teams from other divisions get into the playoffs.

If any division is going to get both wild card slots, as unlikely as it is, that division would be the AL West. They had 3 teams last season that posted better records than the Tigers and already managed to get 2 teams into the playoffs. Now with the added bonus of those 3 teams getting a chance to play the Astros a lot their records should rise a notch.

I don’t think you can say this right now. So far Detroit and Toronto have made significant moves (and additions like Victor Martinez)

In the West the Rangers and Angles are just as good right now as they were at the end of the year, i expect the Angles to go big after pitching. Who knows what the A’s are going to be like next year.

Sure I can see someone argue that two AL East teams WILL make it, but saying three is kinda silly

COPO, I am making no predictions. I merely state that it appears My Boys just got better. By a lot. On both sides of the ball. This is empirically verifiable. Whether this turns into what I want it turn into will depend on a Manager and another arm. My Boys have just set themselves up as the Prettiest Girl In Town the two demographics of hitting and pitching. Lets see what happens next, then I might hazard a guess as to how the season will go.

Well, look at it this way – when they were unbalanced with the AL East in 2010 and 2011*, with most of this same core, they won 85 and 81 games respectively. Anyone want to argue the Yankees, Red Sox or Rays are going to better this year than those?

*2012, even for Jays haters, can’t really be chalked up to performance.
