I agree It was Knapp who turned Verlander into a pitcher and not just a hard thrower. If it wasnt for Knapp I dont believe Justin is the pitcher he is today . knapp didnt really fit in with the Tigers staff of hard throwers. Knapp came from the Twins where all you had to do is throw the ball over the plate for strikes. Hernandez on the other hand was the pitching coach from 06- 09 and didnt do much we all knew that Kenny Rogers did more for the other pitchers in terms of helping them then Chuck seemed too.

Among former Tiger pitching coaches, I was actually more impressed by Rick Knapp. Of course, it’s pretty tough as fans to judge.
