The Phillies met with B.J. Upton

Nov 16, 2012, 11:02 AM EDT

B.J. Upton is apparently on a grand tour of the N.L. East. Yesterday he met with the Braves. Ken Rosenthal reports today that earlier in the week he met with the Phillies.

For his part, he’s enjoying the attention:

Loser ponies up for Michael Bourn? Or makes a play for Juan Pierre?  How does this work exactly?

what are the braves chances of signing ultimately?

Considering what (not who) owns the Braves…chances they sign him are around 0%.

    Aww.

Love it when they talk about the love shown to them. Like Pujols signing with the Angels and saying they made him feel like family. Of course they did. They’re wooing you and will blow smoke up your ass to get you to sign.

Phills would be better off getting a BJ from their wives than one for the outfield.

That’s probably true no matter which outfielder we’re talking about.

BJ’s tweet tomorrow will describe how the Mets set up a call with him because they couldn’t afford to pay for a plane ticket or anything else, but wanted to appear competitive with their division mates. This will then be trumped the next day with a tweet regarding his courtship by the Miami Marlins, who will be offering him $300 million to sign for two years, with $299 million backloaded to 2014, with a clause in the contract that voids the 2014 year if he plays his home games in the state of Florida.

Bj Upton is incredibly over-rated. If he gets for more then 7 or 8 mil a year for more than 4 I want the phils to pass. They should have dove into FLA and grabbed Stanton. Guess Amaro was too busy admiring himself.

Did he stop in Washington too?

Ive been telling people for months long before the season was over that the Phillies were going to sign BJ Upton and Kevin Youkilis and now that I saw 37 year old Torii Hunter got $13 mil a year i’m frightened at what BJ Upton would want. He seemed like the best fit for me considering Michael Bourn and Scott Boras have been saying for months they want $100 mil, I was thinking you could get Upton at 60-80 million (13/5years) $65 million…anything over 75 or 80 i’d be skeptical of because the guy is a career .240 hitter.

Youk would be a waste of money, and I think it’s the weak CF free agent market that makes BJ Upton look so appealing. I think that real value for the 2013 Phillies has to come via trade

Im a huge RAYS fan. Going to miss BJ but I can understand him wanting more. Just hope it works out better for him than Carl Crawfords move!!!

Anyone who signs Juan Pierre is very far from being a loser. His price, plus his ability, plus no long term commitment, equal bargain in 2013.
