At this point though, Pete is gonna be dead before that happens. Bud Selig just does not want to take a chance on him doing something stupid. I would expect once Pete dies, maybe 3 years goes by and he will then be reinstated.

To new fans these days, Pete Rose is not very significant anyway though-20 years of being nothing but a punch line is a long, long time.

Given Rose’s history of trying to monetize his sob story (such as by selling balls signed “I’m sorry I bet on baseball”), I don’t think the first question is much of a mystery.

HoF rules make anyone banned from baseball also banned from the HoF. As it stands, they will not only wait until Rose dies, they will will wait indefinitely beyond that. Shoeless Joe Jackson died in 1954 and is still not in.

That document didn’t make him ineligible for the hall of fame. The subsequent rule change made him ineligible.

The unasked question (as usual, there is one, and as usual, it’s obvious) is why Pete is selling his copy of the document. The second unasked question, based on previous Pete memorabilia sales of many items billed as genuine multiple times over, is whether it’s the real document.

It’s just Pete being Pete. He’s definitely been a trainwreck off the field, but he’s still one of the greatest players ever and should be in the HOF. He shouldn’t be allowed to hold any positions of power in baseball, but he should be allowed to attend ceremonies, etc. He still means a lot to Reds and Phillies fans.

First Pete Rose ain’t no Babe Ruth.
Second it took 86 years for the Babe Ruth document to fetch almost a million dollars.
Third Pete Rose ain’t going to around and probably with time the document will fetch less than the $235,000 that he turned down.
