So, Seattle fans won’t have Figgins to kick around any … oops! Actually, it’s the other way: Figgins won’t have Seattle to kick around anymore. Supposedly, no one can figure out why this never worked. My hope: Stop signing former Angels as free agents on the downside of their careers.

yup. we picked him up a couple of weeks ago. not happy we did that; hppy he’s gone again. apparently the blue jays signed him forna couple of weeks in october and dropped him, too.

Like pretty much every GM, there are definitely things to criticize Jack Z about (the Morrow/League trade, etc.), and its easy to criticize the Figgins signing at this point. The problem with this, though, is that at the time the deal was made I don’t remember anyone voicing a strong opposition to it. In fact, if you go back and look at the pundits’ lists of best off season moves from three years ago, this signing was on a good number of them — and that wasn’t limited to those folks that pay attention to UZR, WAR, etc.

The fact is, sometimes even good process and sound decisions lead to bad results. It just happens in baseball (and elsewhere in life).

I’ve wondered that myself. I mean I could understand a slow decline because as a player gets older it’s normal to lose a step and his game was based on speed. but, as you say he just went off the cliff.

It’s hard to understand how the same guy that use to drive me nuts, .. which was a short drive to start with, .. when he played my Yankees went bad so quick.

The AL West will be a strong competitive division with 4 of the 5 teams bashing each others heads in all season and those same 4 teams feasting of the carcass of a baseball team in Houston.

Chone wasn’t worth the price they paid him when the contract was finalized. Good on him I suppose for chasing the money and grabbing at something that he’d never get anywhere else.

Dude is finished and I’ll never quite understand his Seattle career.

Yep, that’s it alright! Stopped caring as soon as he was payed. Couldn’t be, nope nope nope, no way that it was that he couldn’t deal with the pressure of signing the big contract, with all the expectations that go along with it. THAT has never happened in the history of, well, any sport so we’ll go with the not caring thing.

Why does every kind of offense die in Seattle? I can undrestand the HR thing because of the fences, but how does a slap hitter with speed and a decent eye fall off a cliff so suddenly? I would not be shocked to see him rejuvenated elsewhere, ala Ibanez, Beltre, Ichiro, etc…

Figgy come back home to anaheim, you can bolster our bench. He can replace Izturis. He still has above average speed and can play both infield and outfield. If Juan Pierre can get a job, I’m sure figgy will find suitors.
