DeWayne Wise will return to the White Sox, with Mark Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune reporting that the free agent outfielder has agreed to a one-year deal worth $700,000.

Wise played for Chicago in 2008 and 2009, bounced around with three different teams over the next two-and-a-half seasons, and then rejoined the White Sox in August after being released by the Yankees.

He did his usual thing, hitting .258 with a terrible on-base percentage, a little power, and good defense, and the 35-year-old will likely be slotted into a bench role for 2013.

as a 4th or 5th OF, id say its a WISE move.

Always liked him on the sox…good defense and there are worse options (remember Brian Anderson? yeesh)

Any story about Wise should note that he made one of the most dramatic catches in baseball (and certainly ChiSox) history, when he stole Gabe Kapler’s home run leading off the 9th to preserve Mark Buehrle’s perfect game in 2009, bobbled it, then re-caught it as he fell to the ground. Sadly the YT video isn’t quite as good as the catch.
