And if all the blogs are correct it would appear that the Red Sox would be looking at him as a part time 1st baseman and catcher. The Red Sox already have 2 part time catchers in David Ross who they just signed and overpaid for and Ryan Lavarnway. Then three still is Salty their 2012 full time catcher. Do the Red Sox believe in the “you can never have to many catchers on your active roster” plan?

Napoli is looking to basically parlay one very good year 2011 out of the last 3 years (2010 and 2012 were mediocre) into a big payday. And when you look at his splits for 2012 he couldn’t hit left-handed pitching worth a lick .179 BA / .295 OBP / .411 SLG / .706 OPS

The guy can rake but he’s injury prone and will miss a good 50-60 games per year or more. 3 years is a stretch, 4 is crazy. On second thought, I hope the Red Sox do give him 4 years. It’ll fit in nicely with the dumb contract they gave Gomes.
