so snowbirdgothic thinks Philly fans judge our teams based on W/L records because that’s the only thing we understand?? Last time I checked, were always criticized for booing our teams and being unhappy with them even when they have a winning record. Somebody clearly doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

I saw Fields play several years in AAA and was impressed. Clearly not an All-Star, but he had quality major leaguer written all over him. I’m surprised he has never stuck, maybe the Phils got lucky here.

actually, it’s been more than a decade. in fact Vegas was only a farm team for the dodgers for about 5 to 7 years in between stays in Albuquerque. And yes, it is in America.

I’ll always be pulling for this guy after he led the cowboys to victory in Norman in 2001 and ruined the gooners season and then came back in 2002 and led OSU to a blowout victory over OU in 2002. Sorry to break this to all Phil’s fans…Howard, Utley and Rollins got their money, they are now officially done. Never to see an All Star game, a .280 BA or top 10 OPS again. We Phans will now be served a steady diet of DL trips, wasted at bats and 400 strike out ( combined ) seasons.

I completely understand the Marlins philosophy. Sell quickly!!!

I’d go more Cliff Lee – guy goes out and tries to do his job, gets hamstrung by the folks on the other side (the offense, making Ryan Howard and Chase Utley the Dick Lugars and Olympia Snowes of this particular scenario) and a few ineffective folks who are supposed to be supporting him (Chad Qualls = Rahm Emmanuel?) while being pilloried by an over-the-top media (WIP, standing in for Fox News) driven by an audience base that doesn’t understand anything below overly simplified metrics that don’t necessarily tell the whole story. (W-L record = straight up-and-down quoting of deficit figures).

Then again, Old Gator could probably phrase that in a more elegant, Charles Pierce-ian way than I ever could, but I expect he’s huddled up somewhere with Michael Westen and Sam Axe plotting some sort of convoluted scam to frighten Jeffrey Loria into selling the Marlins to a neighborhood free clinic proprietor.
