The Giants aren’t necessarily committed to Angel Pagan

One of the assumptions about the Giants heading into the winter was that they were going to basically keep the roster together, and that included re-signing Angel Pagan. But you know what they say about those who assume. From Buster Olney:

The San Francisco Giants have been talking with Angel Pagan, but aren’t sure they want to give him as many years as he wants in his next deal…

Probably just posturing — it’s hard to see how the Giants don’t basically reassemble their 2012 roster for 2013 — but it’s not like there are a shortage of veteran outfielders out on the market right now.

Signing Pagan would be like signing Huff after 2010. The wisdom to let Uribe and Renteria walk should be exercised on Pagan. Don’t let one good season overwhelm his track record of mediocrity.

Pagan would be nice but I’ve got to think if they keep the rotation in tact, and Timmy & Brian bounce back a little…… Well, Pagan would be nice, but not required.

How good are Olney’s sources? This is the guy that claimed that Acta, Tracy and Riggleman were the finalists for the Blue Jays managerial job and was totally off base. For now, I view his credibility as dubious.

If you head to PFT you can still find the link. For some damn fool reason they decided to link the olympics instead. I like OTB. It made me laugh.
