I really don’t know how people could downvote the objective fact that Ichiro, who was 16% below average on offense the last 2 seasons, does not get on base.

Ichiro does not get on base at a high clip, has never walked much, and his ability to get on base on dependent on speed, not something that usually bodes well for guys pushing 40. The last 2 seasons with Seattle his On Base % were .288 and 310. That does not equal a guy who “gets on base” in any sense.

Objectively, if you say a guy who “gets on base”, that means a guy like Swisher. Sine he, you know, gets on base at a higher clip than Ichiro. PLUS hits for power. Striking out and getting on base a lot are not mutually exclusive, obviously.

Right, why would a team that could only hit HR’s and had a disastrous average with runners in scoring position possibly want Gardner and Ichiro. Knowing cashball he’ll spend about 90 mil on a guy like Adam Dunn.

Ichiro may or may not be the answer, but I sincerely hope Scoot Hairston and Ibalez the outfielder are not influencing these decisions. Gardner, Ichiro and Granderson would be a snappy defensive OF, and all being left-handers, they could let someone like Hairston p[lay against lefty starters and rotate those guys to the bench.

That would make sense, but Ichiro isn’t exactly the best at getting on base. Most of the sluggers that Yankees had were pretty good at getting on base in addition to striking out and hitting homers.

Ichiro had a 2 month resurgence last year, but overall he has been below average at getting on base and scoring runs the last 2 years. Even during his resurgence, Swisher, Chavez, A-Rod all got on base more and Ichiro barely got on base at a higher rate than Teixeira.

Make it so! Sign Ichiro ASAP. Need guys to get on base not just strikeout and hit homeruns. A three run HR is sooo much nicer than a solo shot don’t you agree? Also, some extra defense in the OF ahould not be ignored. Imagine that… the guy WANTS to play on a winning team…go figure huh?

It’s not the “traditional” arrangement, but the Yankees have plenty of power in the places that don’t provide it as often, 2B and CF. With the questionable state of the rotation, getting a shutdown defensive outfield could be a great strategy for NY. I’m all for it, with the added possibility of re-signing Raul and mostly using him as a PH/DH type.

Cur, please extrapolate upon the idiomatic construction “that guy is so clutch he craps clamps.” I suspect this is a bit of medical industry jargon but I want to be sure, as I love the look of it even in terms purely of its graphemes, find its autosuggestability quotient as high as the percentage of spread factor in a gaboon viper bite, and plan to use it again, gleefully, as soon as the correct context arises.

Crikey. Please let Ichiro walk, Cashman. That guy is so clutch he craps clamps. Clearly playing for stats in Seattle was no longer a thrill for him. Being on a contender sure re-invigorated him, though. I’d way rather he was on some other team, preferably an NL team. I hear Da Feesh have some open spots in their out field? Whatever. So long as he’s not a Citizen of The Empire, I’ll be real glad.

Considering the way Ichiro played for the 2 plus months he was with the Yankees I would love to see him return as the full time right-fielder for about $8MM plus maybe an extra million on PA incentives. He can steal bases, he’s shown he can still hit for average and has enough power with the right-field porch in Yankee Stadium to make some noise. It makes all the sense in the world for the Yankees to re-sign him on a 1 year deal. It might even be worth it for the Yankees to have a 2nd year team option. I don’t see the Yankees re-signing Granderson for the 2014 season a 2nd year option will allow the Yankees to only have to replace 1 outfielder after 2013 instead of 2 if they only offer Ichiro 1 year with NO option.
