I agree that the football stadium is much more conveniently located, but it was a horrible place to watch a baseball game. The enormity of the bowl just makes it feel like a football stadium no matter how the field is configured. The seats aren’t angled properly because baseball isn’t played in a rectangle. Of course, the availability of good infield box seats which are aligned along the basepaths mitigates the sight line shortcomings of the seats further away from home plate, but you still can’t escape the looming upper decks all around you and the complete lack of baseball atmosphere. I plan to make my first trip to the new ballpark at the end of next season when the Tigers come to town. I’m sure there will be plenty of good seats available then, also.

Just get out of the league and in both cases the city he has moved to had lower attendance there first seasons in there new location.

Honestly,the deal simply isn’t good for baseball in general. It’s a staunch reminder of how badly some fans distrust the franchises they love to watch play. In all honesty, Bud should force Loria to re-structure the season ticket holder’s deals,or allow a back-out clause for them.

So that’s why Tropicana Field is only half-full (I’m an optimist). We’re the real fans, the ones who will travel to a far off ghetto section of St. Pete just to watch baseball in an oversized warehouse. No distractions or amenities. Just baseball.

While i agree Loria is a douche of epic proportions the so called Marlins fans have no one to blame but themselves yes they built a beautiful stadium unfortunately no one came to see it so what did they expect to happen???
Maybe if they spent more time at the games than calling Lebatard they’d realize that the 92 loss steaming pile of crap on the field needed to be blown up

No, they polled 400 people in south Florida that were baseball fans, 90% of which self-identified as Marlins fans, some respondents were season ticket holders and results to some questions were couched as % of season ticket holders (rather than respondents).

The NL also followed the AL in counting tickets sold as attendance rather than people that pas through the turnstiles. The Marlins probably had only about 1.5 M in actual attendance last year….that would be a little over 18.5K/game….they had plenty of games the last half of the season that looked like there might have been 10K in attendance….if that.

By moving the stadium to downtown Macondo, Scrooge blew off pretty much the team’s entire constituency in northern Broward and all of Palm Beach counties. This was a considerably larger constituency than the Hispanic population of southern Macondo per se.

But it’s beside the point: the idea that folks in Kendall, Pinecrest, Coral Reef and Homestead, for example, didn’t go to the ballgames because of distance was always a myth anyway – one that the ownership did nothing to discourage, for obvious reasons: it helped them sell the idea of a downtown stadium. Fact is, with the turnpike running right through the heart of south Macondo and depositing fans right at the doorstep of Joeprodolsharklife Stadium, you could get there faster from south county than from many places in mid-county, especially the congested west side.

Forget the distance myth about Joeprodolsharklife Stadiu. It was a perfectly comfortable and accessible place to see a game. Fans from all over the south Florida conurbation have been apathetic about the Feesh in equal measure, and this has much more to do with the quality of the teams Scrooge and the Chihuahua have been putting on the field, and with the palpable contempt with which they have treated fans.

Although lacking any objective yardstick or pool of statistics by which to measure extent of corruption, I won't argue with your assessment of our fair burgh. However, I will take you to task for not understanding two things: (1) that it was the county commission of Macondo even more than the city government that was responsible for plundering the tourist tax which was used to build most of Macondo Banana Massacre Field, and (2) that you focus on the corruption of the city and county governments without once mentioning their incompetence. I submit that the jury remains out on which of these qualifications was most responsible for the popularly undesired existence of our beautiful but benighted facility.

Sadly, this isn’t even always true. Couple years back I was in town on business when the Yankees were playing a nationally televised game versus Rays in September.

Two weeks & change left in season, a game separated them in the standings, Price versus CC.

17K fans bothered to show up.

Although what ownership did was i understand the move. Whats not being said is that miami’s hispanic company said the games were to far to travel to dolphins stadium. So management catered to the hispanic community and built a stadium near little havana. what happens ? fans still don’t attend games.
