swisher has consistently sucked in october. The guy is a .169 hitter in the playoffs.

having said that, i’d love to see the sawx sign a soon to be 33 yr old swish. He’ll have two decent seasons before they look to move him out of town.

Oh, and if he thought right field in new york was tough just wait and see what they do in Boston..his act will get old faster than Josh Beckett’s

Gomes and Ross are backups signed to two year deals. Maybe a little pricey, but the sox have money. Gomes is going to platoon in left with Kalish. Nava is the 4th outfielder. If Swisher is signed, I’d prefer the Red Sox to not go after Mike Napoli because while Swish may start in RF this year, he’ll be pushed over to 1B by 2014 (when JBJ and Brentz come up). Considering Swisher has posted a WAR above 3.0 every year since 2009. And he also has a career .359 wOBA and .361 OBP I think he’s worth something along the lines of 4 years, 64 million (tops). Do not give him 5 years 75-80 million or anything crazy like the 7 year 126 million he originally wanted. He’s a good hitter and has a good eye, and probably is only going to be in the outfield for 1 or 2 years tops. It’s good he can play first. If they sign him I wouldn’t mind someone like Carlos Pena on a 1 year deal to play first. My preference though is Napoli on the 3 year deal because he (unlike Swisher) does not cost a draft pick.

I forgot to mention. As for Swisher’s salary worth pay wise while he was with the Yankees those 4 years his AAV was $7.9MM. Considering the Red Sox just signed Jonny Gomes to be a part time Left-Fielder who is absolutely horrendous against RHP’ers to an AAV salary of $5MM I’d say Swisher was a steal for the Yankees.

And as for Swisher not showing up in the postseason offensively you are 100% correct. But considering the Red Sox have missed the postseason entirely the last 3 years and they haven’t won a single postseason game since 2008 and they aren’t aren’t likely to make the postseason in 2013 I don’t think that’s something they need to worry about.

I wanna vomit. Swisher is garbage. How is it that Sox management doesn’t realize that he only hits bad pitching? He muddles through the regular season, showing his short porch Yankee Stadium power while hitting below .250 and then the playoffs come and the #4 and #5 starters all disappear, and he routinely hits around .100 with no power. He’s not worth anywhere near what the Yanks were paying him. I don’t want him in Beantown at all.

At least they have traded for a manager who looks good in a uniform, has experience losing, and whose pitching staff had a lot of injuries last season. He is a good fit for that rotation.

They also did not have a decent closer last season. Enter the new manager who said that in his first year of managing, he did a poor job handling the bullpen.

And yet after all this the Red Sox have still not address their most glaring problem, pitching. Specifically their starting rotation. The former ace previously know as Jon Lester has stunk since September 2011. Buchholz seemed to be getting better as the season wore on but still performed like a dog the first 6 weeks of the 2012 season and started to struggle again at the end of the 2012 season. Morales was I nice surprise but he ran out of gas late in the season. Doubront was up and down all year probably had something to do with the fact he only pitched 35 total innings in the 2 previous years then 161 innings in 2012. Who knows what he’ll be good for in 2013. Lastly their is the 34 year old John Lackey who missed the entire 2012 season because of Tommy John Surgery. Now am I the only one that thinks the Red Sox should be addressing their starting pitching before they went or go after all these other odd and end pieces?

Can someone please explain something to me. The Red Sox signed David Ross a soon to be 36 year old part time catcher to a 2 year $6.2MM deal. Jonny Gomes who can’t hit RHP’s worth a lick as a part time left fielder to platoon with someone, they are looking at Napoli as a part time 1st baseman part time catcher and part time DH and now the rumor mill is they are having ongoing conversations with Swisher as their right fielder who can potentially fill in at 1st base when needed. I guess that’s for when Napoli is filling in for Ross who is the part time catcher who can’t hit RHP’ers. God am I the only one that confused by all these signings and potential signings of the Red Sox for players that are “jacks of all trades, masters of none”?

Just as a side note by all accounts the Red Sox/Ben Cherington over paid for Ross and Gomes. And Swisher will probably get a 4 year or 5 year deal worth in the neighborhood of $60 to $70MM. Ain’t life grand.
