He may not be a top-tier slugger, but Whiteside is a solid defensive catcher. He is worth much more than the Yankers have paid for him. Good luck to Eli.

Ok so here’s the scoop from the Yankees home page and the YESNetwork on Whiteside’s contract. It’s for $625K or whatever pro-rated portion of that Whiteside would make for the time he is in the Major Leagues. The Minor League portion of the contract is for $200K. So cutting to the chase, the most Whiteside can make is $625K if he spend the entire season with the big league team, $200K if he spends the entire season in the Minors OR something in between depending how much time he spends in combination of the Majors and Minors.

You noticed. He’s only costing the Yankees about 20% of what Ross is costing the Red Sox. But don’t telling anyone it might make some of their fans jealous.

He is certainly much cheaper than the career back up catcher who was signed by the Red Sox.

It would appear that the Whitehead signing amount has presented us with a conundrum. MLB TradeRumors is reporting the deal was for $625K and it’s being said here the deal is for $650K. Now I realize what’s $25K among friends, I’m just curious as to which one it is.
