Greg Maddux, Dale Murphy, Willie Randolph named to Team USA coaching staff for WBC

Nov 26, 2012, 5:32 PM EDT

Greg Maddux

Team USA manager Joe Torre has picked his coaching staff for the World Baseball Classic and it’s an impression collection of big names:

Pitching coach – Greg Maddux
Hitting coach – Gerald Perry
Bench coach – Larry Bowa
First base coach – Dale Murphy
Third base coach – Willie Randolph
Bullpen coach – Marcel Lachemann

Maddux as pitching coach is interesting because if he ever showed a desire to do that on a full-time basis teams would be lining up to hire him.

And no doubt part of the job for all six of those coaches is talking various stars into actually playing in the WBC.

Not happening. I don’t think he liked working for the front office during his brief time in Chicago.

He still works in a front office right now as the Special Asst. to Jon Daniels down in Texas. The link is to show that.

I meant in Chicago. I’m well aware of his special assistant job with the Rangers.

I think you’re confusing him with Mike.

Granted his track record but given the pattern of the rest of the list, what’s Lacheman doing here?
Should’t the bull-pen coach, be Sutter or Eck?
And starting next WBC, Mo for life.

That’s assuming a Yankee Legend is a New Yorker above all else……

That is a ton of talent on that coaching staff.

Regardless of how much 80s superstar talent is on the coaching staff, the WBC is going to suck donkey balls.
