The Dodgers’ lawyers don’t believe in classy, especially when there’s already litigation underway. Somebody might get the impression, or be persuaded by lawyers, that the classy gesture is an admission of guilt.

I wanted to comment but husky2score said it for me.

BTW: you can’t say “I feel sorry for him” or “nobody deserves this” then say “but he’s not a innocent victim”. It makes whoever said this sound like a heartless prick.

Obviously who said that on this thread has never been a victim of a senseless crime or knows somebody personally who has.

I’m from the Bay, and anybody w/i the SF area who has severe head trauma is sent to SF General. They offer great care & often have to eat bills for the homeless & less fortunate. Yet, they still employ top notch MD’s, Nurses & staff.

Listen, I’m not trying to justify the cost of healthcare, but try going to the ER w/o insurance & watch the bills pile up. Then add to that MRI’s, meds, Physical Therapy & Hospital stays,etc. things you’ll need on a daily basis. Then times it by 50 years (your supposed remaining life expectancy) & see if it comes to a cozy manageable figure.

No, the Stowe’s did not ask for this. Neither did the staff at SF General. Yet, as a society, we should stop picking up our Cell phones to dial 911, rather then to film it for YouTube. Then maybe a senseless crime could have been avoided.

I mean the stadium didn’t have cameras to monitor the lot! Yet they’re set to make billions on TV revenue? You bet it’s convenient timing! I hope the courts make The Dodgers pay for every penny of his care. The money would be better off spent rather than their spending spree on washed up or overrated players.

Assuming Stow had health insurance it’s likely his insurance company is cooperating in the lawsuit on behalf of the plaintiff(s) in order to avoid any liability.

That total likely includes not only the current bill (intensive care for comatose patients is quite expensive), but future needs as well. When working up the possible expenses for lifetime care I’m sure the bean counter included not only worse-case scenarios, but also assumed the victim would live to the median age for men.

1. The TV money has nothing to do with this. The Dodgers insurance would likely cover this. (Regardless, rule number 1: You don’t sue people who don’t have any money)

2. A lawsuit depends on how negligent the Dodgers really were. Was this a foreseeable event is what it comes down to. If security saw them exchanging words, bad for Dodgers. Were there parking lot fights before this? Bad for Dodgers. What had the Dodgers done about fan violence in the past? Etc. Etc.

I’d find it hard to believe that a jury would let the Dodgers (the big bad rich guy) walk away free on this one. I’m surprised that the hospital is getting involved. I’d figure that 50 million dollar lawsuit from the family would cover those expenses.

It’s known in the insurance industry as going after the deep pockets. The hospital knows they can’t get that kind of money from an everyday schmoe, so they inflate the bill and attempt to collect from the Dodgers and/or their insurance companies. Chances are the bill will be settled for somewhat less than $50 million.

Reflex, I’m not saying what happened is ok, its not and its tragic. The original comment meant go to the game, behave responsibly and things like this are not likely to happen. If you go to a game engage strangers in trash talk, possibly drink too much and the chances of something like this happening increase. If I call someone a dumbfuck the odds of them punching me in the face dramatically increase over if I just said nothing.

At Dodger stadium, they just have one big parking lot. Not little ones that flood the city. While this situation may have happened at a little parking lot, plenty of people were there, if I heard correctly. If there were a lot of people in the given area, at least one security officer should be in there. Back to the Dodger stadiums big parking lot. McCourt should increase the amount of security, and it won’t be hard to assign territories because it is one huge lot. If he is to lazy to do so, or doesn’t want to spend the money, shame on him.

It does not matter if he talked trash or not. Assault is assault. Leaving your door unlocked in no way exhonerates a thief.

It is well known that the Dodgers were explicitly negligent about security both in and around the stadium. To the degree where MLB actually appointed someone to improve security there because the team refused to do so. How liable that makes them will be for the court to decide.

If you are going to invite up to 50,000 people to your place and serve them alcohol then you take on the responsibility of security and safety for everyone you invited. The Dodgers failed in their responsibility: to save money they made HUGE cuts to their security staff. Would this have happened anyway? Maybe. But knowingly failing to provide adequate security puts the organization on the hook.

In this particular case though Mr Stow wasn’t just randomly attacked. There’s video evidence of him talking trash to Dodger fans in the game. It wouldn’t be too much to believe it continued in the parking lot. Nobody derserves what happened to him but it seems his own action had something to do with it. He’s not an innocent victim.

Yeah people do yell at each other and usually it doesn’t amount to anything bit ot sure as hell can. If you don’t know who you’re yelling at maybe you shouldn’t do it. You never know who’s there looking for a fight. And this happened out in the parking lot not inside the stadium. Its a lot harder to stop all the jack asery in hige parking lots full of cars leaving and people. With the attitude that security should be able to stop everything we’re going to see lawsuits sueing cities because there wasn’t a cop on every corner to stop every crime from happening.

According to the LA police, at the time there was virtually NO security in the parking lots at Dodger Stadium because Frank McCourt wouldn’t pay for it. It IS the Dodgers responsibility and the new owners knew it when they bought the team.
It’s like buying industrial land, the new owners are responsible for environmental cleanup if they didn’t perform accurate due diligence.
