Aren’t they dragging their heels because they still are operating under the delusion that some team is going to empty its farm system for him? Sorry, Sandy, he’s still a 38-year-old knuckleballer. I love the guy, he’s a great story, he had a great season, and he won a Cy Young. And sure, knuckleballers seem to go on forever. But they never get trust, and he’s still 38 years old.

The Mets don’t care about R.A. They don’t care about Wright. They don’t care about their fans. The only thing on their mind right now is the debt they need to clear so they can make their grimy dollars again and get out of the red.

At his age and with their precarious financial situation, I’m not sure the Mets feel a lot of anxiety. 2013 is taken care of; maybe they will worry about the rest later. Tough for Dickey, but negotiation is a zero-sum game.
