It’s not being on the side of management to recognize that Hamilton carries risks, and they affect his market value. Also, to recognize that his (and his agent’s) view of his value differs from that of the teams interested in signing him. Probably, by quite a bit.

Besides, it’s still relatively early in the free agent market. Lots of time for the market for Hamilton’s market to mature.

But I’m sure the appearance of being streaky and high maintenance emotionally makes teams think in terms of shorter windows and higher risks.

He’ll end up doing okay. He may just not be as rich as he wanted to be. Heck, the Rangers already offered him 13.3 MM$ for one year.
