The problem with that argument kpow is that the Angels’ salary structure is already not consistent with ability. Pujols is not the best player on the team, and Wells isn’t the 2nd best. In addition, from 2014 through 2016 CJ Wilson will be paid more than Weaver. If the Angels or any team used their best contract as the upper limit for signing FAs, they just wouldn’t sign any more FAs

Or how about we are paying Weaver X amount of money, Zach you’re very good but you aren’t even in his stratosphere….. we’d love to have you, here’s 80% and there’s the door, take your pick.

And….. Weaver is a class act who took less to stay with a team and in an area he loves, is Guillen even on an MLB team anymore?

If you cant see that giving consistent playing time to youngsters (Trout, Bourjos & Trumbo) benefits the team more than appeasing an aging vet (Hunter), maybe you should give your tickets away as you clearly aren’t watching the games.

I like Hunter too but playing every day at the same position in the filed and in the lineup is clearly going to benefit Bourjos and Trumbo

They were picked to do well last year because everyone expected them to have a stacked rotation. Now they have Weaver, Wilson, and three question marks for a rotation…and they really don’t have anyone in the organization ready to step up…as of right now Richards (who was not good in his chance last year) and Jerome Williams in the #3, and #4 spots…with NO ONE in the #5 spot.

Their offense isn’t getting any better than it was last year. Trout can’t be better, Pujols is in the midst of a 4 year slide, Hunter is gone, pitchers remembered that you don’t have to throw Trumbo strikes…where is the offense coming from? Without Greinke (and more) this looks like a team that will fight the Mariners for last place.

Start the fire Jerry websites…I cant believe Zack thinks he’s even worth 160 million. Im glad were not paying him that much but Im pissed we traded away 3 top 10 prospects to get him. NOt to mention letting my favorite player Torii Hunter walk. Plus the fact he signed a 32 year old Alber Pujols for 250 million when we needed a 3rd baseman. How stupid. Im watching the Angels collapse before my very eyes. If it wasnt for Mike Trout I wouldnt even keep my season tickets.

Greinke wasn’t eligible for a qualifying offer since the Halos traded for him at the deadline. Therefore, the signing team doesn’t have to give up any picks.

Sounds to me like the old negotiation ploy. The Angels have dropped $25 mil and, by all estimations, make $147 mil per year from their TV contract. 6/150 is what Tiny Rosenthal is reporting. I think the Halos will get it done.

I didn’t like his character when he was in Kansas City. I don’t like his character now. If Kansas City fans can’t watch their team win ball games, they should at least be able to watch guys with the right attitude. Obviously the Royals need an ace, but I wouldn’t drink a beer with Zack in real life.

Obviously they needed him back but they were getting picked to do well last year before he was ever on the team. They can still do well if they plug the other holes they have.

Greinke is great, but at the contract he will likely sign the Dodgers really are the only team that can pull that off right now without blinking. The Angels’ experience with Wells I’m sure has forever made Moreno gun shy about anyone who’s not a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Everything I’ve heard is that the Angels don’t want to pay any pitcher more than they pay Weaver, and that it’s more out of a respect-for-Weaver’s-feelings thing. I say BS on that. Yes, Weaver left a lot of money on the table to stay there, and they appreciate that. But, you know…Weaver left a lot of money on the table and that’s on him. They can’t let that hamper their ability to sign another pitcher until after he’s gone, because they will never sign another impactful pitcher if that’s the case.
