Zach Stewart was once a promising prospect who was traded from the Reds to the Jays as part of the Rolen trade. He was OK when pitching in the minors for the Jays, but faltered when given a chance to pitch for the big team. He was traded to the White Sox in 2011 as part of the 3 way Toronto/Chicago/St Louis trade. He did not pitch well for the White Sox and was subsequently traded to the Red Sox. I got a chuckle a couple of months ago when I saw some Red Sox fans claiming that Stewart would be adequate compensation for John Farrell. Stewart remains a “suspect” whose time to prove that he is capable of pitching in the majors is running short. I wish both him and the Pirates good luck, but I suspect that he will never be a decent major league pitcher.

Fine point, but Yost left him in to try an eat some innings. I’m not sure at which run (the 9th, 10th, or perhaps 11th) that they decided he wasn’t going to walk out of the stadium with his head attached. I know that Kyle (Hiram) Davies got banged around (possibly even injured) as the starter and they brought Mazarro in to do… well, I’m not really sure what, but it was embarrassing.

Why was he left in there to give up that many runs in so few innings? Maybe it’s the management that needs to go, and young pitcher need more than a couple of innings to show what they can do.

There’s no room on a team with bad pitching for a guy that gave up 14 runs in 2 1/3 innings. Good riddance, Mazzaro.

When I first read the headline I saw “Royals acquire Stewart for Mazzaro and Robinson,” and thought “no way.” Then I learned to read better.

The scouting view of Clint Robinson begins and ends with “Quad-A masher” but maybe the Pirates will find otherwise. He’s a dreadful defender, worse than Billy Butler, so don’t expect much there, though.
