He may not have wanted to be around all the issues the Dodgers were facing at that time. He may have thought the White Sox had a better chance to win at that time. He may have had personal reasons to stay in Chicago (kids in school there, wife likes it there, etc.). He may have had other business interests in Chicago.

It doesnt happen often but sometimes its not all about the money.
