Like that time he refused to take the field because he wanted to be at 2B and not LF? Or does that not count cause he wasn’t on the Cubs at the time?

Well its going to be to an A.L. team because every GM, and Fantasy GM for that matter knows that Soriano can’t play D anymore….maybe some spot duty, but not every day.
I’m guessing he goes to a team like Seattle where he can DH every day and play for a team that could be on the upswing, and that moved in their fences for more HR’s.

If you trade for him you’d have to keep your fingers crossed you’re getting the 2012 Soriano and not the 2009 version. At his age the best you could probably hope for is somewhere in the middle.

Fonz is staying put in Chicago until 2014. Cubs need power & no team is gonna pay more then 8 million. Cubs cant give him away for nothing & still pay the salary for another club.

If the Tigers sign Drew to play shortstop, they could turn around and trade Peralta and maybe a prospect depending on how much cash they want to eat to the cubs and have Sorino and Dirks platoon left field. Sounds crazy at first but consider Illitch wants a championship badly and it would take a ton of pressure off Soriano hitting in that lineup.

The guy still hit 32 HRs and drove in over 100 RBIs. While those numbers might not be worth $18 million per season, they’re certainly worth $12 million based on what some of these recent bums are making. Say whatever you want about him, but he’s always been a pro. Cubs might eat $10-$12 million of the $36 million, but not much more. Where else can you get 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs for $12 million a season?

Or maybe eat 23-26 million, then ask for a prospect with some potential. I am not saying they will get any organization’s high-end prospect, but his production at 5-6 million a year could be very attractive to many teams, and worth giving up a guy that has big league potential.

Soriano will be 37 years old in January I think for him to be attractive to another team the Cubs are going to have to eat $20MM plus of the remaining $36MM he’s owed. Keep in mind the Cubs are also going to expect a prospect or 2 in exchange even if they are low level prospects.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Soriano would fit with Mets. If the Cubbies ate, say, 15 mil I think they should jump at it. Unless, of coarse, they blew their load on Wright.

Very interesting. Alfonso Soriano had a very nice 2012. Depending how much of the remaining $36MM he’s owed the Cubs are willing to eat he could be of interest to several teams I would think. You also have to wonder if the Red Sox hadn’t squandered $10MM over 2 years on Jonny Gomes what their interest level would be for the left-fielder Soriano.
