Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that third baseman David Wright will take his pre-signing physical — required to finalize his newly-agreed-to $138 million extension with the Mets — on Monday.

There’s no reason to think it won’t go smoothly.

Struck early Friday morning, the eight-year extension is the richest in franchise history, besting the six-year, $137.5 million contract given to left-handed starter Johan Santana in February 2008.

Wright, who turns 30 this month, will be in New York through at least the 2020 season if all goes according to plan.

The native of Norfolk, Virginia batted .306/.391/.492 with 21 home runs, 15 stolen bases and 93 RBI in 156 games this past season. He also played excellent defense at the hot corner.

Wright is a .301/.381/.506 career hitter through his first nine major-league seasons.
