Wellll… The Mets will still get a pretty sweet haul for Dickey,even if they don’t get a mega-prospect like Myers. The cards are pretty evened out,considering knuckleballers last well into their 40s,but personally, I’d rather keep Dickey and trade Neise.

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder…but production is not….the reason the Jays have been adding so much via trade is because they guys they are replacing were below average players….just because those below average players have been replaced doesn’t make them suddenly valuable….there is a reason the Jays signed/traded for the guys they did….of course, it only takes one dumb GM to get value for those guys….I just don’t think SA is that guy….or that a package involving those guys with be anywhere near competitive in the attempt of teams to land Dickey…if he is traded.

I just don’t think Dickey has as much trade value as you think – and I suspect the Mets know this. You’re buying a single season of a 38-year-old pitcher almost certain to regress (and who is certain to be good, but for the Mets in 2013, so what?) Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan, but you’d get nowhere near the return you would for an ace of the Felix Hernandez variety, or frankly a hotshit 25 year old coming off a big year who had some years left on his contract. He wouldn’t command more than 20 a year on the open market, and I’d be shocked if he would even pry an organization’s top prospect.

I’d say Dickey would likely return an everyday but not All-Star MLB player or two, + a few high upside but not top prospects – more like the kinds of returns the Marlins got, actually.

As far as Arencibia or Buck – yes, they would consider them, because it’s a premium position. What other better catchers are out there on the FA or trade market? Seriously, I can’t think of any – and not ones that can guarantee 20+ HR a year.

I’d say the best the Mets could get from the Jays would be an Arencibia, Rajai Davis, and one of the Lansing trio (now duo) pitching prospects.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Mets need younger and cheaper players with upside potential. Would they accept a package of younger players from someone? I have no idea if AA is interested in Dickey, but you can be sure that he is trying to trade for a pitcher who is better than Happ.

d’Arnaud is the best catching prospect in the minors and trading him for a 38 year pitcher with 1 year remaining on his contract would be gutsy.

That was then, this is now. They were reaching, got absolutely no interest with such high demands, so have come down back to earth on their expected compensation. Remember, hes only under contract for one more year so a team wont give away that much if they think he may just be a rental.

I never thought of Sandy Alderson as a stupid man. Do you think below average players like Rasmus/Arrencibia/Buck would even be considered in a trade for Dickey? I’m not even sure Gose would be of interest, he is only 22, but he’s never hit in the minors at any level. I imagine nearly every interested team can offer more value than those players represent…even if it isn’t at a position of need for NY….you can always trade valuable players for what you need.

I can think of another team which has a surplus in the outfield and at catcher that could use an extra starter. Texas is another team that could use a catcher and is might be a poor fit for the Mets.
