Based on the offer that the Mets made to Boston, it sounds like it would take a bit more than Buck and some warm body from Buffalo to pry Dickey loose from CitiField.

Just the cost of the waiver claim, $25K. The Yankees paid the Giants, the Blue Jays paid the Yankees. The Yankees break even.

Whiteside is out of options. The Blue Jays already have Arencibia, Buck, d’Arnaud, and A.J. Jimenez (AA catch’n'throw guy, contract recently purchased to keep him out of the Rule 5 draft pool) on the 40 man roster, so expect to see him DFA’d or released before the season.

Our Boys need a pitcher. They have catchers coming out the wazoo, surplus outfielders, and expendable farm talent. The Mets need a centre fielder, a catcher and some farm talent. The Mets have a pitcher whom they probably feel can’t help them rebuild and he wants paying commensurate with his work.

The thought of The Mighty Dickey in Beaver Land…well the euphemisms, they write themselves, eh? The starting rotation…well, if this gets done, I am seriously considering going the FULL halladaysbicepts and proclaim Our Boys the WS champs from the first day of spring training. Then I may spend the remainder of the season alternating between ripping them for losses and attacking anyone who DARES speak ill of them. Might even make a point of drunk commenting at least twice a week.

Both the Yankees and the Jays routinely claim players that they do not intend to keep on their 40 man roster. Eventually those players are placed on waivers with the hope that nobody claims them. If they make it through waivers, the team has beefed up its Triple A roster at little cost..

AA collectin’ him s’more catchery goodness, eh? I can only imagine that he plans to do a mega blockbustery tradey thingy. Basically I see a Super Package of Whiteside and/or Buck, an OFer, and AAA prospect trade with some desperate GM who needs a warm body behind the plate, some feet in centre, needs farm talent and has a surplus of arms. Mets, anyone?

Why did the Yankees pick him up at all if they were going to drop him? Why did they tender him a contract? Does it cost them nothing to do this? Just curious, probably don’t understand something here.
