Alex has been good for a very long time. He is 37 and a long career of well above average SS, 3B and HOF hitting have taken a toll. I know it is popular to hate Rodriguez and love Jeter, even in New York, but it would not be wrong to admire both players equally. Alex has had something of a tin ear when it comes to the press and public perceptions but over all has been a relatively good Yankee in terms of staying out of trouble and showing up to play and he has played very, very well when healthy. Derek Jeter manages the press deftly and I think most admire him for his skill at this, yet there is little difference in the two gentlemen when we speak of long HOF careers, being a good citizen, and the never ending pursuit of women. Both gentlemen played the post season injured, did relatively little, and both required off season surgery. Yet it is Alex Rodriguez who will be vilified while Mr. Jeter gets little more than a swiftly corrected post about his girth. Now who am I to criticize the perception of others? After all I am but a pressed pork with glasses. Still, I think this is wrong.

Good luck, Mr. Rodriguez. Get well soon and come back when you are ready. Then show them who’s the better player.
