Brandon McCarthy has been cleared to resume throwing following September brain surgery and the free agent right-hander has no shortage of suitors.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the A’s, Red Sox, White Sox, Cubs, Twins, Royals, and Diamondbacks have all expressed interest in McCarthy and the Rangers and Angels are expected to do so at some point.

In other words, expect McCarthy to get a multi-year contract that might push him out of the A’s price range to re-sign.

Would love to see the O’s put a serious bid in here. Seems like a very good fit for the team. Cheaper than top of the line starter. Only ERA above 3.50 the last 3 years in the AL East is against Baltimore.

He’s a great guy, but if the price goes much above $ 7M per year the A’s will have to promote another River Cat. Already Bob Melvin is not including McCarthy in his interviews when asked about the 2013 rotation-he’s an add-on described as “we’d love to have him back”.
