I wish Marco well, jerryb, I really do. His play in the post-season was phenominal.
He's going to get upwards of $4 million wherever he signs. His family should be set for life with that, right? If I were him I'd want that and a better-than-average shot at another ring or two.

Do you actually watch Giants baseball Jerry? Wilson has 4 pitches that he uses effectively and his slider is the one he uses the least. His cutter is plus plus, one of the best in the game and that, my friend, is his out pitch. He has tremendous control of that pitch at 89-90. He has a 4 seam and 2 seam fastball. The 4 he runs up there at a pretty consistent 96, the 2 at 93-94 with very late hard run. His slider is average. Wilson walks batters because he has so much faith in his ability to make corner pitches. Not because he can't throw strikes. He prefers walking guys to giving in to location. The results speak for themselves. Let's not diminish the importance of an all-star guy just because we haven't seen him in a while, and if you're going to give a scouting report at least try to give an accurate one.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Scutero has never gotten the really big contract - and this is his last chance at a big, provide-for-the-family-forever contract opportunity. He certainly appears eligible for Pagan-type money

Wilson is another story: he is twice-damaged goods and isn't facing reality....he's lucky if he gets 3-4 million a year (if he gets it he should take it and run). The only team that doesn't care about money is the Dodgers and even they didn't give him what he wants. People tend to forget that other than 2010, Wilson was always the guy that gave Giants fans "torture" - he was the closer who walked one or two an inning before ending it (he has two pitches, and if the slider isn't working he is in trouble because his velocity is merely decent, but not great).

I wish the Giants would remind Scutaro and Wilson that, at this point in their careers (as Derek Jeter remarked after Alex Rodriguez signed his mega-contract with the Rangers) it's not about the money. It's about World Series rings.
Sign one-year or two-year, performance incentivized contracts, perhaps with an option year. They can go somewhere else, but their best chance for another ring is in San Francisco. Play in front of a sellout crowd of adoring fans every home game and make a reasonable amount of money doing it. Make your home in one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the planet. Where else can they do that?

“Sometimes these things don’t go as smooth as you would like. You still don’t forget the contributions he made to the Giants in 2010. I’d love to have a chance to talk to him here real soon. I wish him nothing but the best. Unfortunately, these things happen and they’re a part of the business.”

So how much of this Bruce Bochy quote really sounds like he definitely wants him back? Sure, in a vacuum, where content doesn't need to be created, media isn't pounding down the door, and myopic fans demand loyalty, this'd mean exactly what the headline stated.

But seeing as that's not the case, I'm betting it's merely an attempt to add him back to the pen on the cheap. Brian Wilson already had his year as mascot. It's time for him, Freddie Sanchez, and any other folks who don't actually play games anymore to hit the road.

Sentiment and emotion play a big part in Wilson's view of the game and his role. Unfortunately for him, that's not how a front office evaluates potential contributions. He may not be temperamentally suited to any team other than the Giants at this point (where else would that beard play?). But the only thing that matters is can he bring it like he used to?
