Dickey has to shoot for the stars, he won that ugly wooden plaque thing given to the best pitcher.
reports outta the meeting’s is many teams are kicking the tires because Dickey is under contract
and Sandy said he would take a look at a significant type player in a trade.

If the Mets discover during the winter meetings what the max they can get for Dickey, regardless of what that is, they should take it. Build for later with prospects, and become competitive again. As this season showed for the Mets, one Cy Young caliber pitcher really cant make that much of a difference without a bullpen and defense.

Reading comprehension. 3 year deal, renew existing and two more. So tear up 1 year 5 mil. and start new deal this upcoming season. Works for all parties concerned. Why not give him 3 years 36 million instead of 2 years at 29 – 30 and one for 5 (35 mil). Make it 10, 13, & 8 with 5 million bonus package and get it done.

Well, that plus the incredibly high price in terms of prospects that they attached to him in trade discussions (if the Bogaerts/Bradly Jr. rumor is true). They’re in a tricky spot: no one is going to pay premier money for a 1 year rental, and no one is going to want to lock him up until he’s 42. The Mets are looking kinda screwed here

If by 3 years he means tearing up the current 2013 contract and negotiating one that covers 2013-2015, it would make sense for most teams and limit the risk.

As for front loading the contract, I think more teams should do that. Not only are you more likely to pay what they are worth in the early years it would make it easier to unload the contract in the later years.

This may be the reason the Mets have had trouble garnering serious interest from other teams regarding a trade for Dickey. Most teams dont want a 1 year rental, but also dont want to lock up a 38 year old for a 3 year deal for a total of 4 years either. Knuckleballer or not, thats a high risk situation.
