Ichiro hit .322 in his time in Bronx, Gardner is going to hit .280ish and swipe 50-60 bags if playing everyday and is one of the top 2 or 3 defensive outfielders in the game.

Since Granderson has been on the Yanks, here’s where he ranks in numerous stats:

fWAR – 6th
wRC+ – 7th
wOBA – 6th

ISO – 2nd
BB% – 8th

Raw totals
HR – 1st
RBI – 3rd
Runs – 1st

The three who are consistently above him are McCutcheon, Kemp and Hamilton. Two of the three are signed to long term deals and the other is seeking a long term deal much higher than $15M. So if you get rid of granderson, you are going to replace him with a worse player? And this makes sense how?

And to be honest Nunez with a glove on in any position scares the daylights out of me.
It’s far more likely the Yankees would go with Gardner (CF), Ichiro (LF and then someone like Cody Ross (RF). I say like or even Cody Ross who would be affordable and have HR power as well. Just my opinion.

When he’s slumping or doesn’t run out a ball in outfield, he’s not going to have 1,000 reporters asking him about it after the game if he plays somewhere like Cleveland or Tampa. If not comfortable with Nunez in LF (which is oddly enough his best defensive position) or you plan to try and grin and bear it with him at 3B early on make a run at Scott Hairston.

This team will be fine offensively (in regular season at least) and can live off a deep pitching staff.

You keep hm then you have to deal with a contract extension & an agent who is going to say “look at the HRs!”

Much better off finding some GM who goes “look at the HRs!” and fleecing them best you can in a trade.

Anyway you break down his splits the guy gets worse as game gets tighter and he goes from a .280+ hitter who nags half his HRs in innings 1-3 to a guy hitting .200 with a K/rate that doubles from innings 4-9.

Move him while he has value and you avoid having to try to re-sign him at a higher cost than you want or just getting a draft pick for him when he leaves.
