In a move that probably puts an end to their pursuit of Rod Barajas the Diamondbacks have re-signed catcher Wil Nieves to a one-year deal, according to Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com.

Magruder reports that Nieves will get $800,000 to serve as Miguel Montero‘s backup, which is the role the Diamondbacks reportedly offered to Barajas previously.

Nieves is a prototypical backup catcher in that he’s never gotten 250 plate appearances in a season and is a career .229 hitter through age 34.
