Kevin Youkilis has multiple offers

Dec 5, 2012, 12:00 PM EDT

Kevin Youkilis AP

Third basemen are a rare commodity on the free agent market. At least any with some upside to them. Kevin Youkilis is one of those guys with some upside, and it seems like teams are recognizing it, as Alex Speier reports that he has offers from “multiple teams.”

The Yankees are a team with a need at third, but Speier says that they’re not likely a serious player for Youk. Too bad, because it would be awesome seeing Yankees fans who have loathed Youkilis for years having to talk to themselves into actually sorta kinda maybe liking him.

Other possibilities include the Phillies. The Indians too, though he’d likely be used as a first baseman there. There’s also a very real possibility of him staying with the White Sox.

Depending on how much he is asking, I would drop back and give Keppinger a hard look.

Why the Red Sox wouldn’t be one of those teams, I cannot fathom. They need a back-up at first and third, and presumably, with Bobby V. gone, there would be no hard feelings involved. The park is perfect for Youk, and he would have a chance to show he’s not washed up. Unless he is angling for a starting role, I don’t get why Boston wouldn’t be his best landing place.

Maybe he’s looking for too little money. Seems their current plan is to give 3 years and 40 million to average players coming off bad years. Then again, he fits right into that mold if he’ll take 13 million a year.

I am a Yankee fan in the situation you described above. I’ve had to do that before (see Boggs-Clemens).

    Gonna be an Indian.

It won’t be awkward at all. You don’t have to cheer him on at Yankee Stadium while he’s sitting on the DL like he’ll inevitably be doing.

Am I the only one that thinks there is no “upside” to Youk any more?

I would love to see Youk in Pinstripes.

The hatred would fall away like the crappy goatee if he played well. Honestly, I am hoping he signs with the Dodgers or some other team that will make him shave.

has his brother checked in (whined about) the situation yet?
