What are you some self-loathing Philly fan? He isn’t a good pitcher. He posted ERA’s 4.82, 5.01, and 4.59 the last 3 years. He once had more than 10 wins for the Phillies in ’09 and that was with a run support per game of 5.1. And got paid very well to be this mediocre.

I have never spoke ill of the guy, and I will always fondly remember him in 2008. That said, I am glad he was traded, and I would have cringed had the Phillies signed him. He is a 4th starter at best anymore, and about the best you can say about him is that he won’t lose 5 starts in a row. After injuried, ,you really can’t even call him an inning horse anymore. He is your proto-type 10-12 starter. Just amazing what you can get for not being 6-16 these days

I never thought Blanton was all that bad for the Phillies. The fans treated him like crap IMO but is that all that surprising in Philly? The guy was constantly berated and referred to a “Sloppy Joe”, “Fat Joe”,…Decent signing by the Angels.

Agreed here. Also like him pitching a ton of games in Anaheim/Oakland/Seattle, granted games in Texas aren’t his thing. Let Bourjos/Trout chase all of those balls down for him, good signing here.

probably in the minority, but I really like the signing. Fly ball pitcher in a big park with elite defensive OF’ers is a good fit, and his peripherals are really solid. Long ball got the best of him in Philly, but Angels stadium should treat him much better. 190 innings with a sub-4.00 ERA isn’t that much of a stretch for 2013. He actually had more K’s/9, fewer BB’s/9, and a better GB% than Jared Weaver last year…. and the year before.
