“Sources” (non-Pedro Gomez division) have said that the Reds payroll in 2013 will “start with an 8″…meaning it’ll be under $90M. Their TV deal runs out in a few years, they could be planning ahead a bit if they’ve had preliminary discussions with potential broadcasters and the numbers look good.

If they are just buying out arbitration years, the payroll won’t go that high…even deals that go 4+ years would probably be back loaded, with salaries simulating likely arbitration awards and then a raise for hitting FA….even then they could get a team friendly deal done since they are giving the players a lot of security.

Homer Bailey is not a first time arbitration eligible guy like the article states, but in fact eligible for arbitration a second time. He made $2.43M last year in arbitration.

I hope they can lock down latos because they gave up a lot to get him…he did well for pitching in such a hitter friendly park
