That may be the worst thing I’ve ever seen a GM say. At least say “more likely”, or “a place they feel”. Why would any top FA want to go to a team where the GM flat out says they aren’t likely to win. At least that’s the impression I got from the quote

The Tigers back then are a good example of why it pays to be patient with front offices during a full rebuild. DD was GM during the 119 loss season but it was because he was having to slowly but surely fix the team after the Randy Smith debacle.

Sometimes it takes time to weed out all the bad players on the roster and the dunces in the executive suites so that a team can have everyone on the same page working for the same goal.

Sure, 104 years may seem extreme but hey, these are the Cubs. If they ever win a WS, everyone on that team including the towel boys and the guy that sweeps up the trash around Harry’s statue will be set for life. If a free agent thinks Theo is on the right path it shouldn’t be too hard to woo them.
