As a Twins fan, it would be tough to see someone like Morneau or Mauer be traded. We do need a lot of pitching help, but please don’t let these two guys go in order to get some pitching. Got to find another way of getting that done.

Hokie Joe is not an ace, but you’re getting a steady, healthy pitcher out of him. On a good team he’s a #4 at best, but he’s not terrible.

No team looking to contend is going to sign Liriano. He was traded for next to nothing last season and did little to improve his perceived value. He’s rotation filler with some upside, and that’s really what the Twins need. They know they aren’t going to make the playoffs, they just need somebody who gives them a better chance to win than the AAA guys they trotted out last year.

“It seems like they’d need one or two slightly more dependable arms just for stability’s sake (+ morale, perhaps?) even while rebuilding.” This is dead on.

I don’t disagree about the Twins management appearing to sit on the fence about the prospect of rebuilding, but what would their pitching look like in a “full” rebuild? It’s been so dire the last couple years that they can’t really let it go any farther – they already had the AAA guys who would be pitching in an ideal rebuild pitching for them last year.
It seems like they’d need one or two slightly more dependable arms just for stability’s sake (+ morale, perhaps?) even while rebuilding.

Maybe they can ship Morneau to Toronto for Arencibia and/or a couple pitching prospects.
