Good move by the Bucs, Hanrahan has 1 more year then he’s gone anyway. Maybe a nice package of him and Alvarez for a shortstop?

But for a late-season epic meltdown, the Pirates would have been playoff-bound this year. With a full season of Marte and some minor improvements (another quality catcher and a shortstop, please!) the team has a lot of potential if the offense and defense can both perform decently for the whole season.

Between Grilli and Russell Martin the Pirates are staring right in the face of at least 75 wins. Will this team EVER make a frigging splash deal that is actually meaningful? I like the slow and steady growth that some teams make over the course of 4 or 5 years, building a system and grooming great young talent to be great young MLB talent, but this is ridiculous.

Why would you go back to a team with no hope of a World Series title (or even playoffs) likely for the rest of his career? Earlier in the FA bidding he had a chance to go to a big winner and he took the money. For a 10-year vet like him, when is enough money enough? At his age and available options, it should be about getting the brass ring.

I really hope he stays with the Pirates. Regardless of what happens, he’s a really kind and I wish him well! He was so great with my nephew when we watched them in San Diego last year, just couldn’t ask for a nicer guy.

my guess is he will make the jump to toronto…nice reliever and guessing he will be looking for a nice pay day (not that i blame him) but chance to compete with toronto might be the deciding factor…pirates might bump up their offer if they are serious about trading hanrahan and would look to use grilli as their closer…
