I like MY but he has been on the decline for two years. He is a pro but his glove just isn’t very good anymore.

I hope he does well, as he will always be a good Ranger to me.

And they would also have one of the cheapest OF in baseball with Brown, Ruff, and Revere. What’s the point? Young has only one year on his deal and the Rangers are paying half. Better they should sign Victarino for 40M or a lazy Upton with his 290 OBA for 75M? The Phils won 6 division titles in a row and a World Series so cut them a break. Half the the team was on the disabled list last year including Howard, Utley, Polanco, and Doc and they still managed 81 wins. I wouldn’t bury them just yet.

Actually, from what I’ve read, he’s pretty cranky. Whining about playing time, position shifts, occasionally requesting a trade, that sort of thing.

Ruben Amaro is just a bad GM, plain and simple. A guy in Ben revere who’s OBP is as bad as Rollins without the power and a washed up Michael Young at 3rd. I don’t see any improvement so far this offseason. In fact all I’ve seen is the pitching staff get worse. I guess we have to wait and see what other moves he hopefully has up his sleeve but so far, so NOT good. I don’t care how many thumbs down I get. Ruben just stinks.

MY was the WORST everyday player in baseball last year. Getting a year old won’t help that. He had never been a good fielder. Most of his power is gone, and he doesn’t have patience at the plate.

I appreciate the off-season optimism factor, but this guy is not the answer to a 3B problem. Compare his 2012 to Galvis (who has a great glove) and decide who you think would be the better option.

The question is, would he be an improvement over the Kevin Frandsen/Freddy Galvis platoon situation. I think the answer to that is yes. Could the Phillies get a better deal elsewhere? Perhaps, but who?

I didn’t make the “bad investment” comment. We can agree to disagree, and we do. I do not see ownership sustaining a $170 million payroll without selling out CBP regularly. We are at the point where the fans who came aboard in late ’08 are about to get off.

The start last year was the result of decisions made by a delusional/out-of-touch front office. They should have been aware of Utley’s status, and the prognosis/expectations of Howard were way too optimistic.

Remember this is the same FO who thought they could bring back Thome and actually play him at 1st base. How did that work out?

Other than the fact that he can’t hit or play defense or steal bases, this is a good move. I mean, I’m sure he’s very pleasant to be around. And that’s the only thing that really matters.

Does it matter that Young could only occupy 1/16th of the space that Plácido Polanco’s head occupied? I mean, what happens if Polanco’s head was occupying the space where a vortex to another dimension was trying to open up and now with that space free, the vortex erupts and sucks the entire left side of the Phillies infield into that vortex. And then we have to listen to Chris Wheeler’s non-sensical take on vortexes and how certain hitters like the ball middle-in, even if a vortex is currently wiping out the left side of the infield.

Who are they going to spend that money on? If RAJ has shown anything, it is that he will way overpay for FAs, in both dollars and years….the FA market is not where Phillie fans should want RAJ shopping. Their MiLB system is still very thin on position prospects. They don’t have anyone that projects as an impact bat.

Except that there are better options. Youk would be a better option, probably more expensive in years, but not AAV. Chavez would have been better and cheaper. Keppinger would have been better and cheaper. MY really is horrible at baseball now.

My comment intial was a short and direct retort, noting that the Phillies have passed on many “bad investments”. My follow up comment expanded on that.

Lastly, read a little closer what I wrote – I did not say you are a troll, I have no clue about your posts overall. I said that “never passing a bad investment” was a troll comment (also inaccurate), and even said that my reply back was a troll comment as well.

Personally, I do not believe the 37-50 start last year was indictive of anything other then a bad confluence of things converging. They have young talent, and they have an ownership group willing to go get new talent

I am not a troll. I am a Phillies fan, and season-ticket holder. Your collective comments were defensive in nature, and seemed to overlook the fact that Amaro hasn’t exactly shined. He panicked when he re-signed Rollins; he has failed to address the diminishing offensive production (does anyone else remember the May 2010 series at Citi Field where the Phils were shut out, for the series?). I genuinely believe that he has no plan, and on the current path the Phillies will careen into another decade (or 2) of abject irrelevance. I do not wish to relive the days when only 16,000 came out to watch a Schilling-Maddux match-up.
