Just once I’d like to see Cleveland spend some money and sign some top level free agents. Even if they fail, at least they made an attempt. They keep trying the mid 90′s script hoping to catch lightning in a bottle again. Good luck with that.

Here’s to hoping we don’t see another 35 year drought between playoff appearances, but it’s not looking too good.

The Rangers have also claimed that Perez is going to be in the rotation too. Clubs “say” a lot of things. I’m hoping they think this through. Perez would be a bumpy ride at first, but having the safety net of Ogando in the bullpen to cover 2-3 innings as he has done before would make it more bearable. The rangers have lost 2 good relievers this off-season and that makes not having Ogando available in relief a huge loss.

Speculation in Seattle is that Holland may be more of a piece of a subsequent trade, possibly packaged with Brandon Mauer/Erasmo Ramirez and James Paxton to KC for Wil Myers.

Perez, as we saw in 2012, needs another season in the minors. He has to develop. Don’t include him in rotation. Full that spot in with McCarthy or even Jackson.

As for the Rangers’ rotation if Holland leaves, you have Yu Darvish, Free Agent (Greinke?), Harrison, Ogando and Perez. Colby Lewis is expected back around the All-Star break. In relief, you have Sheppers, Ross, Grimm and Nathan.

Keep in mind that there could be other moves coming. If Young is shipped out, relief help would likely come in return. Guys like Cruz and Gentry could be on the move for the right pitching return. We know Kinsler is moving positions to make room for Profar, likely to the outfield, and Leonys Martin’s role should increase, shifting guys out.

I’m sure the Rangers can find a decent back-end starter by trade. The big “if” is that you can only trade Holland if you get Greinke.

I agree with lmoneyfresh and I can’t understand why the Mariners want to, most likely, give up a prospect that has more of an upside than Holland. Better to just throw more money at Hamilton if you really want to go all in this badly.

I’d be a lot happier if by some miracle the Rangers just suck it up and accept that they are going to get hosed one more season on Young’s contract (move him if you want, but you’ll still be covering probably ~9-10M of it). After this season, $16M comes free and signing Josh + Greinke wouldn’t seem so awful, as long as Greinke isn’t going too high. I think the #s right now being thrown around on Greinke in the rumors are HIGHER than his actual value. It scares me that the FO appears to have tunnel vision on Greinke and are letting the market this year set an absurd price on a very good, but not 1-of-a-kind arm.

I couldn’t disagree more. He was an absolute trainwreck last season. I think the rangers need to cut bait on the guy and if someone wants him, let him go.

Good question. Ogando is too valuable, IMO, as a releiver to place him in a SP role. In that case they’re be left with Harrison, Darvish, Greinke (if that even works out, otherwise someone else thru FA), and ??? Those last two slots has got to be Perez (scary thought) and Ogando with the dutch oven gone. The FO has already said they are focused first on pitching, but if that is so, then how can they sell Perez as the #5 guy and Ogando ripped from being a reliever as fill-ins for holes??

So if Holland is gone, who takes his place? Because with him gone, 3rd and 5th spot in rotation is vacant.

I don’t believe it, the Mariners had been said to be in talks with Arizona to get Upton. Now they are going to help Texas get him? I don’t think so. The M’s have plenty of pieces to make a two team trade and get him, and they certainly don’t need a weatherman (Holland).
