I think players should make all they can ,while they can. Having written that,I find the idea of a player like Bourn who has already made a few million,and even more so a player like Pujols,who has made a mountain of money,going to a place that for whatever reason is not their fist choice,purely based on money. The greatest thing about having money is not needing money. Playing where you want for who you want is the true luxury of having a few million in the bank.Why Pujols left St. Louis is beyond me. Why Glavine left Atlanta is beyond me. If you don’t want to play somewhwere,then don’t. If you do,why would you allow someone to dictate your place of work? So now Bourn will quite likely end up playing for a losing team in a city that is not his first choice. Money is power. Moeny isn’t cars,houses,jewelry. Giving up the power of self determination for the sake of more money is silly.

It’s premature to be writing Bourn’s market off completely. Boras may be overreaching on both years and dollars, but this market has shown a willingness to put out bigger dollars for shorter contracts. Bourn might not get $ 90M/6, but I bet he can get
$ 50M/3.

I’m no Boras lover, but you can’t count that guy out.

Is this some sort of crazy plan by Terry Ryan? Was Michael Bourn the guy they wanted the whole way? With this rash of moves today I wouldn’t be suprised to see Grienke, Sanches, Bourn and Hamilton all sign with the Twinkies and they shock the world and make the rest of the league look like fools…

Oh wait, never mind. I think Bourn is probably gonna have to settle for a one year deal or take a lesser deal.

Either way his best bet is probably to take a fat one-year deal and hit the market again in 2014. Opens up the possibility of being signed by a contender, for one; secondly, the potential 2014 FA market for outfielders is pretty barren after the top options (guys like Jacoby Ellsbury, S.S. Choo, Curtis Granderson and Hunter Pence).
