Eventually the bank gets emptied, and the Angels pretty much emptied theirs last year. They finished out of the money with Haren, Santana and Greinke, so they have decided to be cheaper and have some flexibility. No argument there.

He should really just take the best deal he can get from the Brewers. He was comfortable there and performed insanely well at Miller Park.

Not really. Think about the rumored asking price, and tell me how Greinke is even remotely worth that kind of money. Even the Dodgers don’t think he is worth it and they had no problem spending high dollars on some questionable talent.

What happens when there is only one team standing, and the other teams that once were candidates have now spent all their funds on alternative plans, essentially removing themselves permanently from being competitive bidders any longer?

In this case, if the Rangers are left alone and the Dodgers and Angels have turned and committed their payroll elsewhere, what’s to stop the Rangers from pulling some $170 mill offer and presenting a $150 mill offer instead??

You’re right. At the time, I viewed Fielder’s drawn out free agency cycle as the exception. Could be turing into the rule for high profile FA’s.

Unless Verlander’s arm falls off I can’t see the Tigers not topping any offer he would get from another team. And if he’s not determined to test the market they’ll probably open the vault before he becomes a FA.

I think sports could really benefit from a Price is Right style bidding system. Especially like the Showcase Showdown. If your bid falls in the right price range you get TWO free agents for the price of one.

Normally I’d agree with you, but Fielder took forever to sign last season and still got his monster pay day. I wonder if that might be setting a little different timeline going forward.

The way I take it, it’s been a bidding war, not that he’s asking for all this money. Eventually there will be 1 team standing who will sign him to whatever they’ve bid up to.

I think eventually the market is going to disappear from Zack. He’s pricing himself out of work. Dodgers aren’t too keen on him anymore and I suppose this report has counted the Halos out. I doubt if Texas resigns Josh that they would want to sign Zack for that kind’ve money. They’d be possibly putting themselves out of the running for resigning Yu when he reaches his prime.

You can take Verlander off that list!! Tigers will not let him hit the market. They will give him a new contract before the end of 2013 season.

mlbtraderumors.com is the best place to go for that. Verlander is signed through 2014, so no, he’s not a free agent after next year. Doc has a vesting option for 2014 that calls for 225 innings and not on the DL at end of 2013, so he might not be either. Here’s the list:

I wonder if they regret the CJ wilson signing?
on a side note does anyone have a good list of potential free agent pitchers for next season? I know that Doc and Verlander on on the list.
