Would it not be refreshing if the Wilpons said to the fan base, “We spent a lot of fictional money over the years from false Madoff profits. Those monies are not longer available and we have to now budget based on real revenues and resources. Until the Bay, Santana and other bad contracts come off, we are stuck with what we have, subject to some trades and player development. Please be patient with us. Players like R.A. The mets lack of commitment just proves that they believe Dickey pitched over his head last year. They think he won’t pitch to a $12.5 million level the next 2 years. At least they’ll get $5million worth this year.

As far as the Jays being interested suitors, that “interest” was greatly overblown. During the winter meetings, AA consistently said that he was not in ongoing trade talks with any team. He said that the longest conversation that he had about any potential trade lasted no more than 3 min.
