The Phillies played 3/4 of their season without a few HUGE pieces so it’s no surprse 2012 turned out the way it did. Things will be different this year.

Honestly, I like the moves the Phillies made way better than the Braves and Nationals moves. Dan Haren has had 1 good year out of the past 4, Denard Span is a good player but Revere has more upside, And Upton has never been anything special and has a bad attitude. He is a severe downgrade from Bourne.

And in Young the Phillies got a piece they really needed. He adds more to the Phillies than he would to most teams because the Phils don’t have a player like him – professional hitter, right-handed, low SO rate – all things the Phillies need.

The only team that stood behind him? He was on the Reds for 1 year in the majors where he was on the DL twice. They’re the ones that REALLY took a chance on him.

Plus, why is it his employer’s job to get him a life coach? You know what happens to anyone else in the USA if you’re a recovering alcoholic/drug addict? Nothing. You’d likely get fired. If he needs a life coach, that should be on him to obtain and retain.

Between JUST Qualls and Bastardo, it was 10 games last year. There were 10 losses and blown saves between them. Last year’s failure can be attributed DIRECTLY to them. if you win 7 of those 10 with other pitchers, they’re in at least at the wild card.

Any of the following, not necessarily all, would be great moves for the phils. Make a late push for Josh Hamilton. Sign Mike Adams to stabilize the back of the bullpen. Bring in a low risk, high reward, proven veteran starter- perhaps someone who could have a bounce-back year. In a perfect world we would also trade for curtis granderson. Or Justin Upton. Other options include Ichiro Suzuki, Cody Ross, or Nick Swisher. Let’s get some power in the OF and bring in a couple of reliable arms – dont sign any Chad Qualls types as we all know how poorly that played out. Hopefully christmas will come early for us Philly fans as it has in the past! Get ‘ER done Rube!!!

Philly can definitely forgive and forget. Hamilton would witness the most support here and the fans would get behind him. When you hear our boo’ing, it’s necessary. Hamilton would thrive in philly- baseball is everything here these days. Hopefully RAJ will make a big splash!

We have amazing passionate fans here and the only reason a Hamilton wouls get booed is if he didnt play up to his contract or didnt hustle. We dont give a shit about his drug problems. You knock Philly yet pleasant sounding places like Kansas City just cheered there qb laying injured on the field. St Louis is supposed to be like Pleasantville yet they boo there team too and players complained. LA and San Fran literally have rival gangs and stabbings at there games… NY and Boston people can be just like Philly. East Coast is passionate so why dont get a clue because you look like the vile person whos classless and inept to reality.

Im gonna go out on a limb here, and predict the “big move” in the works, is RAJ gets on the phone with Cleveland and Arizona and puts together some sort of package that sends prospects to cleveland, cabrera and pitching to arizona, upton to philly. Not sure exactly who he could package, but i know cleveland could use young outfielders(brown….i know his value isnt great, but with another prospect or two might be enough) and arizona needs the SS and could use young starting pitching as well.

A number 4 starter getting over $20 Million a year, but it’s a moot point now that he is going with the Dodgers. All I know is this, I don’t care how much money a team spends during the offseason, it means nothing anymore if you don’t have the best TEAM. But this is still a bad contract, and the Dodgers might be throwing darts just to spend money. Of course health can factor in too with the Dodgers, so we’ll see.

Even with Josh kvan, I think Josh is better served to stay in Texas. Money should never, ever be the number one factor in any player leaving. Unfortunately it is at times. But Texas is the only organization that has truly stood behind Josh, yet he fell off the wagon twice, and the media there has taken care of him. Can you imagine if that happened in Philly, or worst, New York? Texas, he has a coach there helping him out, would Philly even give him one there? It’s all the factors that any player like Josh needs to think about before he makes his decision.

I like this take. Yep, the Phils can get at least one more hurrah if they open the wallet again and overpay for Hamilton, et al. It’s worth it if they can win another title. But that said, the Nats and Braves are on the rise no matter what.

Qualls blew a lot (a lot of leads as well as just plain blew). Bastardo struggled early on, but he seemed to regain some of his 2011 form towards the end of the season. Horst was actually pretty good, and Lindblom, while he didn’t inspire a ton of confidence, didn’t blow too many leads that I recall. He gave up some ridiculous monster home runs, though.
