He nearly quit with the thought of a mega deal; why wouldn’t he quit with the actual mega deal in his pocket? If I were the Rangers front office, I’d stay away and look for Upon and possibly Dickey or A. Sanchez to beef up the rotation.

I’m a little less concerned about the addiction risks. He’s not the first player to have substance abuse problems, and he seems to be a little more aware of the problem than most. My view of the risk is that he is just such a narcissistic prima donna. Everything is about Josh and his inner demons. And he seems to need for it all to play out in public.

I think a lot of GM’s are looking at putting 100 MM$ into a guy that might just go decide to be a monk or that baseball is demonic or that he needs to open an animal shelter or something like that. It scares them, and rightly so.

Too much off field risks?? As a former addict he struggles with those issues every day for the rest of his life. The risk is worth the reward with Hamilton. As for Willingham, the Phillies tried to get him in the Ben Revere trade but the Twins didn’t want to trade him as well. The Phillies are going big. Hamilton doesn’t wanna go back to Texas where he isn’t appreciated. He won’t go to Seattle because they are no where near relevant. The Phillies just traded for one of his best friends. Young will be worth his 6 million by getting Hamilton in Red Pinstripes. By the weekend he will be a Philly for sure. 4 Years, 25 mill like the guy up further said.

While this is and should be true, many players let the business side of things get personal. Many in StL think the reason Pujols accepted the deal to Anaheim without ever even meeting their owner or GM was because his pride was wounded by the Cardinals putting business first: he hated Mozeliak for his bargaining position and after demanding that DeWitt be present at negotiation sessions and realizing that DeWitt and Mozeliak had the exact same detached business perspective with respect to getting a deal done, he was pissed and looking to leave. At least, those were the rumors.

I take the batting left handed completely out of it. He’s the better lefty out of him, Utley, and Howard. He’d be a great improvement to the offense and I’m not shying away from it because I have 2 lesser middle-of-the-order lefties.

The Rangers are looking to make their team better and as each player they had an interest in falls off the table they face the real possibility that Josh goes somewhere else and they have egg on their face. You want to see fan overreaction, let Josh go, get no front line starter, no Upton, and see how rosey things are going to be this off season in Arlington. They have to make a move; I’m just surprised it’s taken them this long. I really thought they’d get Grienke but apparently the Dodgers are intent on becomming the Yakees west. Good luck to them.

Rangers are pretending to be interested to drive Hamilton’s price up, just like Greinke. A Ranger official stated last September that they would not take Hamiloton back “Even if he offered to play for free”

He is a SERIOUS mental case. He is the worst excuse maker in history. He quit on the team starting in June, when he signed the Hollywood movie deal and lost interest in baseball. All he and his wife did for the last 4 months of the season was make plans for all the money they were going to have with his upcoming mega-deal. Here’s the news, Hambone: All the other GM’s were watching you make an A$$ out of yourself the last 4 months. There is no mega-deal. 3 years is the longest offer you have, and even that is a risk. You are going to be booed mercilessly in Philly when you pull the same crap there that you pulled in Texas. Good luck to the team who signs this crackheaded loser.

Do the Phillies have more good young starting pitchers to send? If Revere was worth Worley and Mays, Willingham should be worth that or more. Willingham hits HRs, solid OBP, and has a pretty cheap contract for how he played. Don’t think (hope not) that the Twins will give him up cheaply.

Why do people think Hamilton is going to go back to Texas? The way the end of the season played out with Hamilton getting booed by fans and the team distancing themselves from him and Josh’s own comments i think he will not return there if some other team offers relatively the same kind of contract offer to him. As a Phillies fan and seeing Reuben Amaro Jr’s behavior i am sitting here seeing these small moves like Ben Revere and Michael Young and going to myself, Reuben is planning something big. He knows that landing Josh Hamilton a top 3 hitter in baseball will not only help the team tremendously on the field, but it will absolutely ensure Dave Montgomery and the organization that they’ll sell out every game the whole season. The Mariners offered 3/$75 million. If it’s between Seattle, Texas and the Phillies i’m convinced he wouldn’t goto a bad situation in Seattle, and a situation that he’s tired of in Texas and he’ll goto the Phillies. And i’m sure all the Philly haters are going to give a thumbs down to this.

I think any team signing him for more than 3 years will come to regret it at some point. Seems like too much of an injury/decline candidate. Better to offer more per year on a shorter deal.
