Another possibility–move Bruce to CF, where he played before Stubbs came up, and put Choo in right.

Back to the deal itself–Typically bad for the Indians. Gregorius is good on defense, indifferent at best on offense (like current Reds SS Cozart); Stubbs is a good but overrated CF with atrocious work habits on offense (power, speed, no discipline, whiff king).

Not sure how well a Ludwick-Choo-Bruce outfield is going to work defensively, but I like Choo hitting leadoff for the Reds a lot more than Stubbs.

I am just saying that Gregrius is not good enough to replace Cabrera in that trade scenario. Within the context of the capital being discussed, it is like chipping in a quarter at $100 black jack table. If the Indians plan on using Gregorius instead of Cabrera they would have to include a lot more if they want anything back…..besides that scenario makes not sense within the context of the Indians plans, they are trying to shed payroll and acquire cheap young players.

In any case, the 4-team deal is dead. Shields has been traded and the young SS that AZ likes and wanted to give up Upton are not being offered by TX or Atl (Cabrera isn’t what they are looking for as they have said they want a guy with many years of team control).

Gregorius simply isn’t good enough to get much back in trade. He’s a defense first SS with no power that doesn’t walk much, which is nice…but nothing that makes a dent in the price needed to give up Upton.

Choo & possibly Asdrubal Cabrera out of the AL Central & Pierzynski, plus Span & Revere…lots of guys that historically hit the Tigers well are leaving. Sometimes the best moves a team makes is watching the other guys move around their pieces.

Why would the Indians take a shortstop back as part of the package when roughly 17 of their top 10 prospects are shortstops???

Stubbs hasn’t been even a passable hitter the last two seasons and is getting to an age where his fielding prowess is likely to start leaving him. I would prefer just to hold onto Choo.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that Diamondbacks GM Towers loves Gregorius, so very possible Indians would keep Cabrera and flip Gregorius.

This could be the first domino to fall in a series of events. If the Indians get Gregorius it will give them the ability to trade either him or Asdrubal Cabrera as part of that rumored 4 team trade which would land Justin Upton in Texas. If Texas lands Upton they will probably be out of the Hamilton sweepstakes. I heard today on a Philadelphia sports radio station that the Phillies offered Josh Hamilton a 3 year $80 Million deal over the weekend. Hamilton’s agent responded that they were looking for 5 years, but I think 4 years around $100 Million would get it done. Lets sit back and watch the dominoes fall….at least that’s what I’m hoping….

I’m actually on the other side of the fence- I’m surprised they got this much. Choo was walking at the end of the season guranteed with Boras as his agent. Stubbs in under team control until ’16. If he is does anything close to what he did in 2010, this is a positive deal. Don’t know much about Grigorius but adding yet another shortstop to the mix probably means Cabrera is out the door as well.

Don’t really know much about the Reds payroll situation, but this could be a prelude to a possible run at Michael Bourn. Bruce, Bourn, Choo is a pretty good OF with Ludwick either traded or a strong 4th OF.
