I think the Sox plan is obvious, they have ammassed some really good young talent and I think they think that 3 years from now they will all be in the majors and performing. Until that time they are attempting to stay competitive to keep fan interest, money is not really an issue at this point as long as they have flexability when their young core is ready to produce.

Seriously, take a breath.This front office corrected a bad choice in Bobby V., then dumped underperforming,overpaid players and blew up the roster.If you expected a slew of all stars signed ,you need to root for the Borg or Dodgers. I’m all for giving Cherington a chance with rebuilding the roster. If he doesn’t sign some pitching that performs, it’s another long year.If he does, the Sox will have a chance.
Long Term he needs to eval the farm system and build a new core of position players. That takes time.

Dempster already said no thank you to 2 years at some reasonable rate (if I had to guess 13 a year). I think they should sign Lohse.

It appears that the Red Sox are no longer all in on Napoli. According to Rosenthal, the two sides still have some issues to work through. Since the Sox are still partly in, I would be surprised if they do not consummate the mutual attraction.

I’m guessing if the Red Sox are really in “serious negotiations” with Ryan Dempster on a contract 3 years $39MM seems to be the length and dollars the Red Sox like to had out to players. At least players that they don’t anticipate platooning.

So “mostly focused on” is the new buzz phase for what the Red Sox are doing so far this off season. We can now officially add that to: “checking on”, “looking into”, kicking the tires”, “interested in” and a host of others phases.

The Red Sox seem to have a policy of 2 or 3 year contracts for free agents, so a contract similar to Victorino’s and Napoli’s, should work.

Seems as though the Sox are such between rebuilding and staying competitive for the fans.

Really can’t see then winning a championship as long as this front office is in power. have balls and do whats best for the team long term
